Well we are back from vacation. IT WAS FABULOUS. I was gonna wait to post until I uploaded some pics I took but I can't find the stupid cable for my camera so the pics are gonna have to wait :P Oh well. Here is a rough synopsis of our trip:
Day 1: Left for Lancaster right after Church. Got there, checked in, spent the afternoon lounging in our rooms watching TV, and ended the day with a trip to Garfields for some of the universe's best curly fries.
Day 2: More mindless TV watching, curly fry-eating, and general lounging.
Day 3: Breakfast buffet (THEY HAD FROOT LOOPS, I WAS SO EXCITED!) then a drive around Lancaster (Mom got some great shots, I'll post some) and - yup - more TV. We also went swimming and I tried out the hotel's hot tub for the first time. LOVED.
Day 4: Waaah good-bye amazing hotel room with the balcony overlooking the outdoor pool and the ginormous beds..... Onward to Gettysburg. First stop: visitor's center. I got a copy of an article written by Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain (squeeeeee) in the early 1900s describing the 2nd day of fighting. We also toured the center's museum and I took pictures of almost everythig (course, the pics pretty much SUCK cuz flash photography was prohibited :P). Next stop, the main event: Little Round Top, site of the historic bayonet charge led by my favorite, Colonel Chamberlain. I took some pictures of where my friend Hannah and I should build our treehouse..... Anywho, on to the Pennsylvania Monument with its killer spiral staircase - I HATE THOSE STAIRS. But the long, long, VERY TWISTY climb is worth it - the view is incredible. Now comes the not so great part of the day - we discover that the hotel's pool is not yet open (although their website CLEARLY STATES the hotel is open May to October). Other general complaints about said hotel - virtually no decent TV channels, retarded elevator system (trust me on this) and, here's the killer, BAD COFFEE. I tolerate a lot, but bad coffee is unforgivable. Still, the day ends on a good note, with dinner at a little Italian place in Emmitsburg and us watching MythBusters and NCIS until bedtime.
Day 5: Got up early, bid a happy goodbye to the Days Inn, and headed back to the battlefields. Today we visited the PA Monument again, as well as Devil's Den - which would make an awesome Halo battlefield - the site of Pickett's Charge, and the spot where General Reynolds was killed on the first day. And I just realized that unless you're a Gettysburg fanatic like me, you don't care about anything of this information..... Ho hum, it's a lonely life being a Gettysburg geek. Anywho, we left Gettysburg around twelve and got home around three. Back to my regular life :P
